Gunther Werks Turbo Mule and Billy Johnson Set Track Record!

Rosamond, California - March 12, 2024

The 993 Turbo Remastered by Gunther Werks is making considerable progress. During a shakedown session at the Streets of Willow Springs, the team continued to dial in calibrations for track-focused use on the internal development Turbo Mule. Utilizing the shorter 1.8-mile Streets of Willow circuit, the Gunther Werks team completed another round of rigorous testing and tuning ahead of its sold out 75-unit production cycle which will begin later in 2024.

Over this two-day session, a full slate of new suspension components were being fitted and calibrated, in addition to new carbon fiber aero parts for the Touring, Sport, and Track packages customers will have as options. Through its 4.0-liter twin- turbocharged engine, the 993 Turbo Remastered by Gunther Werks produces over 750 horsepower, but was trimmed back to 650 horsepower for this session to minimize stress on the development engine during a suspension and aerodynamic test.

While putting the Turbo Mule through its paces—albeit with less than peak power—Billy Johnson took the wheel and unintentionally beat the lap record around Streets of Willow Springs, at a time of 1:12.75. Before today, the lap record around the 1.8-mile track was 1:13.51, in a heavily modified and track-dedicated Tesla Model S Plaid.

The next stop for the Turbo Mule is WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca’s 2.2-mile circuit, for continued development and track testing. Where the 435-horsepower 993 Remastered by Gunther Werks naturally-aspirated coupe holds the fastest air-cooled Porsche lap at the iconic track—at 1:30.9—the 750-horsepower Turbo Mule is poised to set new benchmarks.
